Hawkins, as with most of its neighboring towns and villages, started out as a logging town. The area was known for its stands of beautiful white pines, which is what drove the lumber industry to Hawkins in the first place.
Today, Hawkins has a population of 305 residents and is home to the Flambeau School District. Within the town there is the Hawkins Lions Club Park which offers many different amenities. RVs and campers are able to pull up and set up camp at any of the 20 sites within the park. The sites come with water and electrical hookups too. From there visitors can start a game on the volleyball courts, check out the baseball diamond, or get a round of horseshoe in. There’s also slides for the kids at the park.
Hawkins also has a yearly Harvest Festival that falls over Labor Day weekend. The Harvest Festival is a celebration of the town and has fair rides, a fast-pitch tournament, bingo, volleyball, and more. There’s live music every night and a parade to top it all off. If you’re in the area during the festival, it’s definitley worth your time.
